Really? All those feathers and they're not yet 4 weeks? Wow--my babies must be slow featherers then.

Well, I don't know much about rouen/mallard coloring genetics, so luckily you've already received advice on that. Hopefully you'll get a good mix of girls in there. They're pretty!

Good to know that the rings dont mean instant boy. Yeah I cant tell just yet by the quacks, honestly I think mine are just feathering out pretty quick, they hatched about 5 or 6 weeks ago but they stayed in the house for about 3 1/2 weeks. I am expecting to go out there within the next week and just hear a LOT of quacking lol. Funny how they change over night. I am hoping all my favorites are girls LOL. Well thanks all for the compliments and the input I appreciate it. I will update you all when I figure out who is what lol.

The mallard derivative genetics to predict outcomes--> https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=4988050

This
is the sequence for Wild color
M+/M+, Li+/Li+, e+/e+, bl+/bl+, D+/D+, Bu+/Bu+, C+/C+, s+/s+, B+/B+, W+/W+, r+/r+, y+/y+.

M+ = Wild-type Mallard
MR = Restricted Mallard
md = Dusky mallard

then also i think from the cayuga or swedish
e+ = not black
E = Extended Black

Goatwalker, how old are your duck with the ring and what was the mother?

Seeing as the ring is a the trait of a male and i'm pretty sure related to the amount of testosterone being produced i want to say that there males. Just like an old hen that has stopped laying and her testosterone levels rise above her estrogen levels she starts to take on male characteristics

She is now 3 years. mom was a pure buff. she is the only one i could scroundge up a picture of. but ive had plenty of other mutts come out with rings, both male and female.

well ladies and gents, I decided to take some of the babies out today just for fun and found several of them are turning teen on me! I only picked up 5 and of those 4 were female and one was male all but one had a ring around its neck, that one is mostly swedish and runner. Sooooooo yay!!!!!!

yes and thanksfully these brown ones are MUCH more personable than the black ones. I think the black ones are more runner than anything else. I took one into the house tonight and she was such a sweetheart! She cuddled with me and I gave her some water. She was a doll. I am really thinkin about ordering a ducky diaper so I can bring one in for a few hours whenever I want to lol.

Can I just say I know absolutely NOTHING about ducks. Old McDonald's duck go "quack, quack here, quack quack there" that is about the limit of my duck knowledge. I had NO idea you could tell the sex of a duck from the sound of its quack. That is very interesting, you learn something new every day.
