Interesting surprise Japanese Bantam chick

I think this is what my weirdly light cuckoo chick looked like

Or I just have this in my camera roll for other reasons. Idk. I could have sworn it looked bluer.

Similar but different. My chick is clearly black based but the barring turned super light. It has a white head like your chick but not the bluish body.

I totally forgot to update you all. This is what the chick ended up looking like. Here is a picture of him. I also included a picture of him next to one of my standard barred cockerels.

Cute!! So do you think he is a double barred blue? And that is why he had the huge head spot and the lighter back?

Since then, I have gotten a few more chicks that look like the one above.

Very interesting!

If all the light ones end up being males, it's probably just two copies of the barring gene causing cockerels to be extra-light. But if any light ones are female, it would mean something else is going on, because a female can never have two barring genes.
