Converted 14 by 10 metal shed into coop. Started with smaller coop nest neighbor had given me. got so many chicks needed a larger space! Wheeled in coop nest which has the 30 chicks set up in there. Every thing used was stuff had around the yard. It was so easy I should have done this years ago!

I have an all metal coop, too; mine is 11 X 17. No problem with it, although I was concerned there would be, at first. I have some large areas (half of one wall, etc.) that have hardware cloth, because of my climate. The chickens have a good sized yard with talll bushes for summer shade, yet on a hot summer day, they prefer their breezy coop for shade. I do run a box fan in there all summer.

If you have this type of shed with the thin metal it is very easy to cut into. We took off the metal doors that came with it and built the coop door with 2x8 pieces and some fencing wire that allows for great ventilation.

Sorry the app did not upload the pictures. trying through the Web interface. they call em smartphone I call them over automated life distractors.

There are no windows so if air flow becomes an issue I will modify the door into 2 pieces with an upper window of sorts.

I have it blocked off so the chicks can't get under the pallet the broader box is built on. The chicks are 2-4 weeks old maybe the week s go by so fast or slow. who is to know

.I was thinking about opening the entrance door to the brooder and letting them run around in the full coop. would this be ok??

I would definitely do this. if it's set up so they don't get lost getting back to the heat, food, etc.

Started to allow them to get out of their brooder and in to the coop . The first night after getting them all tucked back into the Bruder I had a hard time sleeping worrying that one or two may had slipped through the cracks of course that night he had a frost warning . The next day it was alright all were in the brooder a couple nights go by all is well I guess I missed one last night it was but okay hanging out by the brooder box . It was a bit warmer last night . I am thinking by the end of the week I will be able to keep the brooder door open and they can go and come as they please . The turkeys are already liking the perch posts .
