Hello all!
I decided to pay to have a coop built a d I'll be building the run. The coop is great I'm so excited to have it done. We will have the coop for a month before the chicks even arrive so I have time to do any work.

What do you all do for the interior of the coops. We are thinking of doing deep litter method so I want a good durable floor.

Paint?
Linoleum?
Other?

Should I paint the walls too?

If paint what kind do you all like best? I saw a barn/fence paint available.

Linoleum is the absolute worst flooring material I have ever worked with. Anything is better in my opinion.

Aside from that, for floors...you will find people have used everything with success. Vinyl, plywood, etc. all work fine. A lot depends on your location and conditions, as well as budget!

I found flooring at Lowes on an end cap that was special order returns and one offs. After making friends with the flooring guy, telling him about my coop project of course, he gave me a huge discount on something from that end cap for a fraction of the cost, even cheaper than the cheapest linoleum.

For floor paint, I've read things like porch and deck paint or Blackjack 57 work. If you want to go that route instead of covering the wood floor. You want something that is pretty waterproof.

For walls, you can paint or not, there are many examples of both working just fine. I chose not to paint. It comes down to your preference, and of course, budget.

I try to minimize chemicals/paint and opted for flooring with no paint on the inside. It's really just a personal preference though.

I used BlackJack 57 for the floors, 12" up the walls, VERY happy with it.

I used whitewash for the walls and ceilings. CHEAP! Usually referred to in the store as "Hydrated Lime", comes in powder form, 25 lb bag around $15. Mix with water and apply with a great big old brush. This is what was used for barns, coops etc back in the day. Brilliant!
