Got some chicken babies and one had some orangish stringy poop. Is this normal or do I need to get some dewormer? They are a few days old.

Chicks do not need to be wormed at that age. That just looks like a poop, although it is a little pink. Poops in baby chickens can be stringy thin.

@Eggcessive odds are it most likely is but even with 12 years experience I’m still a worrywart chicken baby mom 🥲 the first one on the leaf was a little longer and sticking on her bum. Like an orangish brown. It wasn’t moving or anything so there’s that. The chicks themselves are acting just fine too. I just wish I could find a chick poop chart to reassure myself. I can only find them for adult chickens.

Chicks would have to be exposed to worm eggs to get them, in it would be weeks for a worm egg to become a worm. Dawg53 who is a bit of a worm expert does not ever worm before 6 weeks I think. I would be more concerned about the pink, so watch for any blood. They usually don’t get coccidiosis either for a couple of weeks.

@eggsceasive this is why I love this group thank you 😪 I know their digestive system is literally just days old and so of course I guess there will be some off stools. Their food is also a light brown so I guess it’s natural to have it to be a similar color too. We always keep our grass short so plenty of direct sunlight can get on everything.
