Hello ! My sweet little Sally is only 1 1/2 years old and she was always following me around demanding to be carried. For a few days I noticed she was eating a lot do dirt which I thought was odd and the also kept going Broody daily for about a week. I noticed her crop wasn’t emptying so I gave her an enzyme with monistat ( she stunk ) and it reduced about 70%. Then I noticed her sitting by herself and not even caring if I was by her , she was also barely pooping or eating so I decided to take her to vet.

He flushed out her crop but there was still what felt like small rocks inside ( grit ? ) he didn’t want to stress her out too much so he gave antibiotics , suggested copper sulfate mix and we took her home.

The next day she was spitting up all of this goo that reeked, I scheduled another vet visit the following day. He did an xray and saw her crop was full of “matter “ and so was her intestine. He performed surgery and removed everything in her crop which was rocks, dirt, egg shells and some of her nest where she lays. He also tested for a bunch of things.

She is on nystatin and antibiotics still but I am worried about her intestines. She is pooping small poops that stink. I was thinking something like a bit of pineapple juice could help dissolve whatever in her intestine?? I also read someone mention epsom salt water for a few days ? I really don’t know what to do, I love her so much.

If Sally is pooping cecal poop, which is normal about every 8-10 droppings and looks like melted chocolate and stinks terribly, that is normal and nothing to worry about.
If you wish, give her plain boiled white rice mixed with buttermilk to eat. The boiled rice will settle her innards and the buttermilk will coat intestinal lining protecting it from coccidia damage. You can add it to her feed for a few days as well.
