Hello fellow chicken enthusiasts. I was previously a member & I suppose I hadn't been to the page for so long I either got deleted (doubt it) or somehow deleted myself...
I've had chickens since 2012. It all started with one chick at Rural King that had a bad eye. The lady working with the chickens was carrying this baby around but seemed to need both hands so I offered to hold the baby...all the way home. She gave her to me since she was concerned the others would hurt her since she was injured. So my hubby & I went back a few days later & got 3 more so we'd have a family for her. We kept an eye on her to be sure she didn't get picked on. They grew up & gave us many delicious eggs. I don't recall how the first 2 passed and honestly don't know exactly how the last 2 passed as I was out of town & a friend was feeding them for me. When I came home after her call upon finding them, there was only 1 body & another large pile of feathers! I was unable to get new babies for over a year.
I now have 2 Golden Comets, they are so beautiful & actually more prolific than my last brood (cannot remember the type right now-they were black)
So, I'm back due to an issue I needed to see if there was any helpful tips & I just need to keep in touch for generally great info to keep my babies happy!
I also have 2 dogs, one was already familiar-having been here since before the first brood. Last January I got a pit mix & actually thought I wouldn't be getting chickens anytime soon. BUT I made the mistake of going to Rural King for something for my dogs at the time they had chickens & I couldn't leave without 2. They have a limit of 6 in my area but I explained the new dog & my uncertainty how Dude, the pit mix, would be around them. As it turns out I have to watch out for him around the chickens. Often, all he has to do is walk by & one will peck him for good measure but all in all everything is great until this weekend.
I think I've introed myself enough at this point as I need to get 'scratching' for some tips!!
Thanks to all & pleasure to meet y'all & be here!!
