We've had chicken for about 4 years and have been slowly increasing our flock size, right now we have about 50 birds, about 6-10 roosters. They are from our last hatch. We have a mix of mixed breeds. It has been lots of fun watching the chickens, I had no idea how silly their antics can be. The eggs (and culled roosters) are a staple of our diet and we are currently suffering from a halt in egg production. I am looking for ways to increase feed without continuing to spend on commercial feeds since the price is not justifiable, especially with a laying hiatus. I found this site looking for more info on feeding acorns. I am always looking for more ideas. I am currently looking to increase our compost by partnering with local restaurants and neighbors.
