Hi ya'll I'm Joules I'm currently in the Houston, TX area. I've had chickens for about 2 years now. My current flock consists of a Calico Princess (George), a Buff Orpington (Bob) and 2 Lavender Orpington (Klevis and Kelvin, or the peepers), don't let their names fool you they are all hens. My daughter named them after the Minions. Bob and George were laying when I got them so I'm guessing they are at most 3 years old. The Lav's are just shy of 4 months old. We also just added 12 chicks (was 15 but not everyone made it during shipping) 3 meat birds and 9 mixed breed layers. My other hobbies include keeping my ladies out of my garden and watching the older ladies of my flock chase my dogs off the compost heap. I have 3 dogs, who are all smaller than my hens. My hens have their own outdoor "barn" cat, Tyrone (also name by my daughter, I've starter calling her Ty). Ty spends most of her day hanging out around the coop. We also have a indoor cat Grace (named Grace because she has none) who is bigger than our dogs and seems to think she is now the momma of the 12 chicks. And a hamster, Peach.
To answer the bonus question, I found BYC when I was researching brooder ideas for chicks and just how stupid I would be to use our old coop for a brooder set up outside. Happy to have learned I'm not as stupid as I thought.
