(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I got chickens this year in April. Totally new to it.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? I started with 9. Added 6 laying hens a month ago supposed to be amberlinks and then yesterday I got 2 roosters. 17 total for now due to chicken math.
(3) What breeds do you have? I have buff Orpington (5) 1 majestic midnight maran (gorgeous) 1 golden laced Wyandotte 1 rock barred and 1 Brahma (fancy feet) (6) amberlinks and 2 new roosters.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? They are hysterical. They love to play jokes and they greet me every morning with coos and my RB purrs. They make me smile so much.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I crochet. I try to knit. I’m making me an egg apron for later when the 15 lay all at once.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. My husband and I moved home and after complaining about the taste of eggs (yes I love good eggs) I said let’s get 6 and then I’ll have the best eggs ever! Then I read about chicken math and that’s a real thing because now I have 17 instead of 6 but I adore them all. I work from home so I see them all day which is great.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Most of my coop ideas have come from here. I’ve seen some crazy and unique things and started implementing them in my chicken play yard. Not sure what to call it. But it’s coming together
