Yes I'm new to chickens and I just got my chicks 2 weeks ago.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

I currently have 14 chickens

(3) What breeds do you have?

12 Cornish cross, 1 buff Orpington, 1 Jersey Giant, 1 Black Australorp.

(4) What are some of your other hobbies?

Hunting, Fishing, tending my Garden

Do you know Cornish cross are meat birds? They grow at an accelerated pace and are processed (slaughtered) at around 8- 10 weeks of age. Even if they weren't - their rapid growth overtaxes their organs, legs etc - and their legs give out/ or have a stroke or heart attack and die young.

You may want to rehome the bird before that happens.

It doesn't per say, however a lot of new people don't do their homework, and some new people might not know that Cornish Crosses are meat birds. My guess is they were trying to be helpful! Welcome to Backyard Chickens!

You would not believe how many people get these "meat" chickens and not know what they really are.....
I am 100% sure Diva was just making sure you were aware, she meant no harm.

@drumstick diva my apologies, I do know that these breed of chickens are meat birds. My folks do them every now an again. I have done some intense research on the birds I do have prior to purchasing them. I should of said that in advance. Again my apologies, didn't mean to come off all snipity.

@Gunrock welcome to BYC from middle Tennessee You may find the meat bird thread interesting. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/meat-birds-etc.21/ I also raise meat birds... You're looking at 60+ pounds of meat there if you get all 12 to processing.
