(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes. I plan to get my first chickens this Spring.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Zero

(3) What breeds do you have?
I am thinking that I will get Easter Eggers.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love fresh eggs.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
My other hobbies include reading, running, and hiking.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I live with my husband, 14 year old daughter, and small dog. I am a special education teacher at a small school in Alaska.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
I stumbled across it when I was looking for resources on how to get started.
 
Many of us got chickens for the eggs, then discovered a bonus -- chickens are endlessly entertaining.

I have a couple of Easter Eggers in my flock, one of whom lays pinkish eggs and one who produces lovely light green ones. Since some EEs lay "normal" colored eggs, I remember hoping and wishing my girls would be special! Turns out, my girls' most "special" talent is escaping into the goat and sheep pens -- and encouraging others to follow them. Neither I nor the ruminants enjoy this skill.
