hi guys.....my last hatch SUCKED! the lady sent me 14 silkie eggs....a lot of those eggs were porous and a lot were messed up cuz of shipping (displaced air sacs). so, needless to say, i had ONE lonely chick hatch out sunday night! that poor lil' chick!!! i hold her a LOT!!!! she's sweet as can be! she's a buttery yellow color and just so tiny and fluffy!! i have four 3-week old standard girls outside. i really wanted them to get to know Sweet Pea (my lil' silkie). so i took a bird cage outside and put Sweet Pea inside of it. nobody seemed to care too much that she was in there, and Sweet Pea was cheeping to get out....so...i let her out! long story short, the older girls really didn't give 2 hoots about her! i mean they saw her, acknowledged her, some did a very light peck, or pecked lightly at her "strange toes"....but other than that, the 4 girls did wonderfully! i was very proud of them! Sweet Pea hangs out with me though, doesn't really "hang" with the girls yet....but still, i figure i'll take her outside every day for 15 minute intervals (maybe twice a day).....while under the watchful eye of me of course....that way the older girls will get to know her.

I integrated different ages twice: 4 week old and 2 week olds, and 3 week olds with 1 week olds. Both times it worked out fine. I've found it's much easier to add them when they are young, rather than later.

Glad it's going well for your young chick!
