Introducing a chick?

I have a broody silkie who despite my best efforts is determined to remain broody. I was wondering about introducing a chick for her but not sure if this is a good idea? Can anyone tell me if they have done this before and what the outcome was. Also, if I was to give her a chick....do they just 'get on with it' or is there some imput needed from me to care for it?

I prefer chicks over quantum mechanics. Shoot, I prefer chicks over regular old biomechanics.

I've introduced a chick to a broody twice. Both times I waited for the broody to have sat for at least 3 weeks and slipped a chick under her at night. The next morning she would just sit, and two days later come out with the chick to explore. Just put food and water low so the chick can reach and momma will do all the work. Do keep an eye on her incase she rejects it and be prepared to keep the chick on your own.
