I know this question has been asked before but most deal with introducing to a flock, I only had two sussex lights and one died two days ago. My other lay is clearly missing her and I am going to have to get another very soon. Do you have any suggestions as to what I do when I do get a new one, which may a few weeks.
kook forward to your suggestions

I was just about to start a thread on this myself. A little different situation. I have 9 approx 8 week old various breeds and was given 3 approx 3 week old ones and they aren't getting along as I'd hoped. The little ones keep away from the older ones all day. I have them slightly separated at night inside the coop( A small barrier) but they're still not part of the flock.

This was day one and the closest they've ever stayed to each other. Does it just take longer? They are running when the older ones come around so I have to assume they've been pecked a couple times.

Thanks everyone on this site. It sure helps to have all of this info here.

I never put chicks together that are not within 1 week in age of each other. The older ones always pick on the younger ones. I put mine out in the coop as a group (same age group) at about 8 weeks of age. They have plenty of room to get away from the other flock members so they do fine. If one does get picked on I take them out right away (along with a buddy).
