Introducing a new rooster

We lost our rooster a couple weeks ago and just got another one yesterday. I added him in with our six hens and he seems to be doing ok. How long should I wait until i start letting them free range. I'm not sure if he will try running away or not.

He shouldn't run away as he's a harem of girls to look after now. That said I'd still await for the girls to except him for his position of flock leader before letting them free. For my small lawn it would lead to scattered chickens and walking them back to my property. Chickens being so incredibly social usually don't go farther than eyesight of the others but I like it when they all stay close together and can walk behind them to move them all at once to where ever I want easily.
