Introducing a roo to my hens

Dumb question but anyway.....I want to get a rooster for my 5 hens. Is it safe to just put him in with the hens. Will they all get along or will there be some fighting untill they get used to one another?

Just be sure he is mature. A young rooster would not fare well with older hens. A mature cock will dominate and treat the ladies with respect.........Pop

We got a cockerel half grown, the same age as our pullets.

He pecked and was mean to them for a day or two. We let them settle it themselves. Now he is sweet and gentle with them and they all adore him. He doesn't peck them anymore.
