I am new to chickens and got lots of great information here so I thought I would post what I have done for other newbies coming along. I have 12 hens at the moment (8 Orpingtons, 3 Plymoth Rocks, and 1 Black Turken adopted from a friend).

My friend called and said that the nieghbors dogs killed all but one of their flock of Turkens. I wanted her to have a good home so I added her to my flock.

I brought her home that evenening and released her into the coop with the girls that were already in for the night. Well that caused quite the fight. So I grabbed her and put her in a all wire dog carrier and gave her water and food and left her in the middle of the coop.

next day I took her outside and let her go with the others. After watching over her for about 30min refing the more agressive attacks I left them. Well she didn't come home that night.

Next day. I found her and it took some doing but I got her and put her back in the dog carrier and put her in the coop with food and water for the day. That night I put her on the roost after everyone was up for the night.

Next day they were all fine. Other than the ocational pecking and chasing around when I through some corn out. But, she comes in and roosts every night. Most of the time she is in before everyone else.
