So, my girlfriend and I currently have two 8 week old buff ducks, one male one female (Howie and LaWanda). They're great ducks and will eat right out of your hand and Howie even tries to jump in your lap if you have a towel laid across you (I think he loves towels from when he was little, we wrapped him up in them all the time for snuggle sessions). We really want to get two Call ducks since I've read amazing things on them and we are going to drive from Kansas to Oklahoma this weekend to get two 1 week old ducklings. They'll obviously be inside as we raise them for the first month or so and will handle them everyday so they LOVE us, but when we are ready to put them outside, will the buff ducks hurt them? The breeder insisted we get another male and female, so we'll have two pairs, instead of two females so the male buff doesn't try to mate with the Calls and hurt them due to their very small size. We'll have a fence in between them for the first few weeks they're outside so they can just see eachother and they'll probably even have seperate houses. Just wondering if anyone has any advice on this situation? My buff ducks are in my avatar picture. =)

Welcome to BYC... oops your pic didn't make it to your avatar.

The plans you have right now are the best way to inter grate newbie ducklings into a an established flock even if it's only 2 in the established flock.

Not sure if you'll ever be able to have your Tiny calls in with your Buffs though during mating season because most likely one of the "boys" will want both of the ladies. Your Buff drake will not care in the least if you have a tiny Call or a huge Pekin duck if he comes out the winner as far as dominant drake. So you might have to keep the pairs separate during mating season and once it's over let them live together. in one pen /house. Be sure to post pics when you can of your Buffs and your new Calls when you get them.

Thank you for such a fast reply! The breeder suggested the same thing during the mating season, so I'm guessing we should be good. I also figured out how to change my avatar ;)

Your Buffs are beautiful. I just love their coloring. What color are the Calls you are getting?
