Introducing chicks in winter

What is the coldest it has ever gotten in your coop/s?

Not sure, probably just about -20F But I am not sure... I live out of town, up on a mountain, so my temps are lower than town, but I never have bothered with getting a reliable outdoor thermometer.

Do you ever provide any heat source for adults?

Never for adults... but I find if I stupidly hatch late season... my chicks need heat for maybe 2 months? Depending on outside temps, maybe even longer.

I'm sure it gets a lot hotter here than there but winters may not be too far off.
It hit -19 F at my house a few years ago. Most of the time winters range between 0 and 35.
Then again it can get to 110 or higher but normal summers get into the 90s for long periods and it doesn't cool down much at night. In those hot spells it doesn't drop out of the 80s at night. I lost a welsummer one summer when we had a couple weeks with daytime temps that stayed above 100.
So in a climate like mine where it is almost always high humidity year round, it is difficult to find a chicken breed that is adaptable to that range.

I stupidly joined the Halloween hatchalong but luckily sold half the chicks so I only need to make room for about 12.
