Introducing chicks into the coops with mature chickens???

I just introduced my new 15 chicks to the coop with my older hens, have had a little chasing by my hens, but, have not seen any pecking or abuse from the older hens. Has been 3 days now and they all seem to be settling down just fine...

Buff - Actually, my office is completely covered with pictures of my granddaughter. It's just that recently, more & more of the pictures have her AND chickens!

I think many people here are just confused as to why I would have chickens. They just don't get it.

Seriously, I think more companies are becoming aware they need to step up with telecommuting due to fuel prices.

Roy - That's great news. I hope it continues to work out for you.

Hi AllChookUp - regarding introducing adolescent chickens to mature hens -
I'm new to this site (just registered today), so I'm answering your concern months after you posted it. Maybe this suggestion could help for some future time when you're combining mature & younger chickens: perhaps you'd want to try first introducing the older gals to the younger ones' coop area ( if large enough) or run - just for a day or so. That way, it's not the territory of the older hens that's being protected...and the older ones are caught a bit off-guard and aren't quite so cocky (no pun intended). Our coop is divided into two portions, with a wall of fencing separating them, so we can decide who goes where. So far, after 3 times of combining, plus adding a neighbor's flock, we haven't had any real problems, but always watched and held our breath!
