That's always a good bet.Blame it on the Testosterone -
Hi,
I am fairly new to raising chickens. I have four Silky hens who are absolutely adorable and loving. A Bantam hen and a mean, nasty Bantam rooster. They were all raised together. They would all sit on my lap and come running to me. Until the rooster turned on me, I'm lucky he's little. The rooster just decided one day he was going to turn on me and only me. My husband approaches and he runs into the coop! It's quite funny. Nobody has ever abused these chickens. They are spoiled rotten, given fresh herbs and veggies several times a week. I still love my chickens but don't really like the rooster. I have been gaining so much information from this site and truly appreciate all the information.
I've read others have done this as well. I will have to get some safety glasses, gloves and wear a thick pair of jeans but I guess it's worth a try. He does shy away from my husband who is very tall and intimidating to the little man! I'm going to need the luck! So is my rooster!Hello, and welcome!! I just joined and am so glad I did. I know you'll enjoy it, too. It's sounds like you have a great flock!
One of my Bantam roosters tried to pull the bullying thing on me. It kind of hurt my feelings at first because was was one of my sweet babies.
What I did was grab him and hold him on his back like a baby and sweet talk him. Hold him up in the air facing me then back close to me like you would a baby
He'd struggle a little, of course, but I held him and petted him (ready to pull my hand away quickly), and sang to him, walked around outside with him that way talking about the sights.
After a while, he calmed down considerably, probably because I'd shown him I was bigger and was the boss who could hold him anytime, rather than any affectionate bond, but who knows?
He still gets feisty sometimes but is more likely to back down. And I still pick him up but not often on his back anymore. Best of luck with your situation!
