Hi all! New to BYC and wanted to say hi.
I’m not really new to chickens, I’ve had some when I was younger (along with goats, sheep, and horses). My parents have (about 30) chickens and I love them so much. Glad to say my fiancé was on board and we were able to get some of our own. He built me a beautiful coop and run and I immediately maxed out the coop! Got our first hens in March 2024!
We have 12 in total:
- 4 “blue” Ameracaunas (I think two are blue, one is lavender, and one is pushing between black and blue, but who knows)
* Peepers (lavender)
* Slate (blue/black)
* Grace Shelly
* Audrey Henburn
- 3 Golden Comets
* Penny
* Emily
* Goldie Hen
- 2 Bielefelders
* Sunrise
* Belle
- 2 Anconas
* Hen vonD
* Russel Crow
- 1 Silver Leghorn
* Pebbles
I picked them based on egg production or egg colors, and how cool they would look. If I had to do it again, I’d never again get an Ancona or Leghorn.
These girls are my BFFs though. They will greet me when I walk outside, love eating out of my hand, will talk to me, and I love that we get our own eggs.
I do enjoy gardening as well. These girls love getting into my garden. Just put up netting today and they’re still trying to find a way in. I’m hoping to start archery soon, wanting to start sewing, and I’m very into politics. I’m sure I have other hobbies but can’t think of what.
I would always search for answers to my chicken questions and BYC would always pop up with answers. Finally took the time and created an account. Looking forward to learning from and with you guys here. Thanks for having me!
