Hi,
I figured I would introduce myslef

Two weeks ago I got my first 25 baby chicks then a week ago I picked up another 25 and put in an order for 10 more. I did loose 2 from the first batch but so far the rest look active and healthy.

The 50 are a mix of...

Roade Island Red
Production Red
Black Australorps
Buff Orpingtons
California White
Silver Laced Wyandotte

The 10 I ordered are araucanas.

I'm converteing the back back of my garage/wood shop into my coup. I hope to have enough of it done that in a couple weeks I can move my first chicks in.

I also have horses, a pony, house cats, barn cats and a great dane.

Well thats just a bit about me

Thanks for reading.

Thanks all for the warm welcome

thechickenfarmer: I have a small family of just me and my son, so I figure if the chicks lay enough then I can sell the extras. But I'm not going to count my eggs befor they are laid *grin*

My initial reason for getting chickens is that I have a farm with a large yard and the bugs drove me batty last year. So the chickens get bug patrol duty (I will of course be feeding feed as well)

I will try and get pictures set up later but right now I need to go buy some more lumber

The chicks colors are an off orange/yellow, yellow, black w/white markings, yellow w/black spots and one that is an off grey yellow. Now my Dane is a fawn and thinks the chickens look tasty.

Welcome Varisha,

That is a lot of chickens!

But they will definitly keep the bug problem at bay from what others have said.
Definitly post pics of your chicks and of your coop construction. Its always neat to see how someone else does it..
