Introducing my babies and a couple questions

I think Itzy may be a HE. :( the comb is pinker than the other blue cochin (well and anyone elses) and the tail is till tiny compared to the other blue cohin. They seemed to feather in about the sametime everywhere else. They are a bit under 4 weeks (born either 4/7 or 4/8) so hoping I am wrong but that comb turning pink now is worrying me. We can't keep it if it is a cockerel so hope I am wrong.

Not the best pics but Itzy and Ditzy today

Those are suspicious signs, but it's still early. There's such a mixture of genes in hatchery birds that even chicks of the same breed can mature at pretty different rates.

Is it a code/neighbor issue with the rooster? Sometimes neighbors will turn their heads for a fresh dozen every now and again, especially if the rooster in question has a low crow like large fowl Cochins usually do.

no we are allowed roosters here but my husband said no way to a rooster from the day he said I could get chickens. (it is his chicken that is in question too). Not sure how my neighbor would be with it though. The coop may be a bit close to our property line but he commented on it last week when we were working on it about how good it looked, but he may think it is just a shed so not sure how he would be if a rooster was crowing often.......

I have my fingers crossed that "she" may just be maturing different than her "sister". The others are all at different rates but think some are a day older than others and they are all different breeds, or colors of the same breed. my silver laced cochin is slower than everyone with everything but she may also be one of the younger ones.

Okay, that's kinda funny the questionable one is his. Tell that man to let go of the sexism! Roosters are amazing. Our 10th "pullet" last year ended up being an accidental rooster, and he's a gem. He's the bird watching the sky while all the hens are focused on snacking and dustbathing, and it's so cute to watch him dance when he finds treats or a place he thinks they should lay an egg. Plus, big roosters, like Cochins, can end up so lazy they rarely crow, as long as there aren't other roosters around to impress.

Of course, other roosters are he&& on wheels. And yours could easily still be a lady. Time'll tell.

There is a rooster somewhere right of our street (think their backyard butts our street) and we can hear him crow when outside so that doesn't help. I did tell him you get used to it and don't even notice it when you have them, but don't think he believes me. LOL but not sure about my neighbor either and don't want to cause any issues there. Will just keep hoping and praying it is a she!
