Hi everybody I just wanted to introduce myself here.. here goes!
I thought I would just use the template to make things easier!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am fairly new myself, I grew up around them my Grandparents had them but I only got interested in them myself in the past 12 months. We found a chicken in the middle of the road at work (I work in the countryside), it was injured and weak. We nursed it back to health and it sparked this love affair with chickens!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
At work - around 15 chickens, 2 peafowl and 6 peafowl eggs in an incubator.
Home - 9 newly hatched chicks + 6 peafowl eggs in an incubator.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Work - pekins, wyandotte, hybrics, a few frizzle hybrids and a pair of peafowl.
Home - mainly pekins but some gold and silver laced birds and a buff orpington, all still tiny at 2 days old!
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I just love caring for animals, I work in animals hence why I work in the countryside. I prefer to socialise with an animal than a human!!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I travel around the UK attending cat shows with 1 or 2 of my four cats and I also like photography.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have 2 British Shorthair cats and 2 Oriental Shorthair cats and I also have a tank full of shrimps and a few fish!
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I have been looking on here noseying for advice and information for so long I thought it was about time to join!
The pen we built for our chickens all inspired from the chicken we found in the road...
The chicken we named Karl after our gardener on the day we found them.
Karl grew up to be an absolute monster!! Unfortunately Karl has passed away now but I hope they enjoyed their extended time here!
Gin the peacock showing off, this is his first breeding year and although we didn't think he would produce the goods at 2 yrs old so far all peacock eggs that have been candled are fertile in the incubators.
Not something you see everyday, a very good doggo at work with his flock.
Last but not least 3 of my 9 newly hatched chicks at home (yes I name them even without knowing their sex, and yes I like Marvel comics), it was my first attempt at incubating and 9 out of 10 hatched (the 10th died 1 week into incubation), I am hoping I have as much success with the peacock eggs but I know they are not so simple.. fingers crossed!
