(1) Are you new to chickens ... ]Yes, a newbie to chickens. I grew up on a Montana ranch but we never had chickens. I did raise wild ducks last summer when I originally posted here;)
when did you first get chickens? We are still working on that aspect. We need to get our coop figured out first and wait for a bit warmer weather.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? None, we think between 6-12.

(3) What breeds do you have? Looking for more gentle laying breeds.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? I found it through searching online for info for my wild duck raising adventure last summer.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Hobbies are more like my life, I am a seamstress, love designing fabric, graphic design, hunting, archery, my horses, gardening

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am married to a recently retired air force veteran, the love of my life, 3 kids ages 8,6 and 4, 1 rescued lab mix who will be 10 on valentines day, 1 1/2 rescued kitties (one shares houses with my parents and ourselves lol), 2 horses Gopher 15 yr old mix and Mora (Nights Amore) our newest 20 yr old Arabian addition. When my husband was retired(disability), we moved from DE where we were currently stationed back home to Montana on my parents ranch. We are in the process of connecting 2 mobile homes so we can have more space than the 2 bedrooms for 5 people. My dad raises black angus cattle (500 hd) and grows a variety of grain and hay. My mom and I have decided to get chickens, goats and grow an enormous garden this year and created a blog to follow our crazy adventures. We are the Hermity Farmer-Women on the backyardfarms forum.

I can't wait to get to meet you all, and go through all this wonderful information.

When I was young we would visit my uncle (my grandfather's brother) who owned a sheep ranch in Montana. Some incredibly beautiful country.
