Introducing Myself and My Chickens

Hello all!

My name is Chaz, I am located in SW Michigan. I am 27 yrs old and mother of two. I currently have lots of animals. I own a horse, a pony, goats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and OF COURSE my chickens!

This spring I was at a local feed mill and they had the meat chicken special, 25 free birds with the purchase of a bag of feed. I fell in love. I now have a hobby that I really enjoy even though I am called the "crazy chicken lady". I am hopin to find other "crazy chicken people here"

I have 7 Rhode Island Reds and a flock of Barred Rocks and Buff Orphions(sp). I am however going to be getting into a different breed. All of my Barred and Buffs are finding new homes today. I am investing in Black Australorps. I have read about them in detail and really think they are the breed for me. Anyone here have them? Or any additional info on them?

I have eggs that are due to hatch Monday and 25 chicks that will be here the weeks of the 22nd from McMurrays Hatchery. I look forward to learning new things and meeting new people! Here are a couple pictures and more will come when I get my new members.

If there is anyone located near me that could help me get info on getting my children into 4-H I would greatly appriciate that too!

HI and welcome! You'll find lots of crazy chicken people here!! I have a couple of astroloupes... they're good layers. I also have Barred Rocks and Buff Orpintins. Like them too. And EEs and PRs and IBs. Like them all...and a couple of silkies.

Welcome! I have five Australorp girls. They are wonderful. They've been raised by my children and are held and petted every day. They've been great egg layers and come every time I call them.

We had an Australorp roo but around five months old he became very aggressive and we had to rehome him as my children could no longer safely be with their hens.

Welcome to BYC, one of the best websites I've ever visited. The people here are very helpful and oh so friendly, as you will find out. I'm in nc, and lots of fellow tarheels are here. I have one BR and 6 BO's, but plan to go strictly with BR's. Of course, being another chicken freak, I'll probably wind up with 2 of everything.LOL

Welcome! I live in NW Michigan - so we are practically neighbors. I have 3 black austrolorps and they are very good layers - not as social as I like, but they are a good chicken.

Welcome aboard !! I live in central Florida, I have mostly silkies and showgirls and a few others (left over 4-H projects). I hope you can get your kids into a 4-H program. They have so much to offer and it is great fun. My son was in it for 10 years. Try calling you local County Extention Office, they should have info on 4-H for you. Have a great week!

Call your county extention office and I'm sure they can help you get your kids into 4-H. My kids have been in 4-H for a year and they love it.

I have several breeds trying them out. I'm addicted to hatching chickens.

There are some very nice, friendly, and knowledgeable people here. I've learned a lot.
