Hello Backyard chicken community!

I grew up always wanting chickens and a place out of the city. Two years ago we moved to the country and I started with 4 “high production egg layers” We ended up with a Black sexlink, Isa Brown, Americana and Rhode Island Red. A month later we added 4 light Brahmas to our flock.

Today a few years later we have 50 egg layers, sell eggs, hatch barnyard mixes, Light Brahma and Americana. We also have Royal Palm turkeys we use for eggs and also hatch for people on request!

My favorite part of raising chickens is fresh eggs, endless entertainment watching flock dynamics, the kids and I enjoy the bonding time while doing chores and learning better ways to take care of our flock. In life we enjoy the simple things, living sustainably.

Other interests and hobbies include soap making, making salves, learning about herbs and plants, gardening. Anything we can do or make at home to become self sufficient. In short, maybe a chicken, nature loving and craves inspiration hillbilly?

My husband and I have 4 kids, two autistic. We have dogs, cats and rabbits in addition to the chickens and turkeys. I work as an HR consultant and farm to support our family. My husband works full time and is very patient with all my crazy ideas.

I was drawn to BYC site to help me with troubleshooting some chicken illnesses in the past and enjoy reading everyone’s insight in the forum and comments.
Thank you! Look forward to contributing to the group.
- R Haas
