(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I got my first 4 chicks in 2013: Australorp, Cornish, Buff Orpington, White Orpington. The White died in 2016, in her nest box no idea why. The Buff died last year in July after dealing with sour crop all summer.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Six hens. I live in a city and we can only own hens.
(3) What breeds do you have?
1 Australorp, 1 Cornish, 2 Americaunas (easter eggers), 1 buff-lace Wyandotte (this year) and a Salmon Faverolle (this year).
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Watching them do their chicken thing (the chicken channel).
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening, fishing, hiking, reading, crafting.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have a husband, 4 children, 6 grandchildren, the chickens, 2 chihuahuas and 2 geckos. I am the director of the Science and Conservation Center (non-profit) and we provide a fertility control vaccine for humane population control in wildlife, mainly wild-horses and zoo animals.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
By doing internet searches on chickens. BYC always has answers for my many questions. I have been stalking the site for several years but never introduced myself.
