Hi Hi: The name I have adopted for my BYC posts is CooCooCoo because that is what I say when calling my girls or whenever I want to get their attention.
This is my first adventure in raising chickens, and before I encountered my first road bump at 20 weeks, 5 days, I would say that raising chickens was waaay easier than raising a puppy. I am starting to question that premiss, and will talk more about it when I do my first forum post. I am raising 6 hens and we started with 2 day old chicks. If I remember correctly, the breeds are White Plymouth, Black Windot, creme leghorn and Egyptian Fayoumi..... We live in the country and, we are able to give them a large pen to roam in during the day. We purchased a coop that we assembled on site. (more on that later). I was drawn to raising chickens after sampling some of the fresh eggs my neighbors had me try and since retiring from my career of many years (I am a nurse-midwife) I thought the addition would round off my pretty stellar home garden. I really enjoy being outside, so having them to hang with is easy now. I am wondering what it will feel like in the winter months ;). I am a total novice to this new career. Other things I enjoy are hiking, swimming, cycling, yoga and knitting. These times of covid have been challenging, however, I feel grateful that I am still able to participate in the activities that bring me joy. I was referred to this website by our local feed store and am thankful for the access to forums such as the one about chicken play toys and ways to avoid boredom....didn't know that was a thing. Happy to be a part of the gang on BYC
