(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Years ago! But I prefer them to take care of themselves. However we require them to sleep locked up.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? After a series of murders from predator birds and probably a fox, we were down to 1 hen and 5 fertilized eggs. All 5 have hatched - last one this morning - but we used an incubator on the day they were to hatch as hen was such a bad sitter. First time owning an incubator!
(3) What breeds do you have? I stick to the Welsumer Kriel, one of the few and oldest Dutch races developed in the 19th Century.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? Googled in desperation about the hatching process. I printed out the DON'TS and rubbed them under my husband's nose to keep him from interfering.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Irish Dance teacher though not exactly professionally, other hobbies forced on me by circumstances to do with children, dogs, cats, wild garden.
