introducing myself

I got my first chickens back in May (2018), so I am somewhat new. I currently have 18 birds, about 10 different breeds: Rhode Island Red, New Hampshire Red, Buff Orpington, Speckled Sussex, Wellsumer, SLW, GLW, Partridge Cochin, Barnevelder, and Easter Eggers. One of the two and a half roosters is Light Brown Leghorn.

True, I like the eggs, but I mostly enjoy the sight of the chickens, different colors foraging through the snow cover or going about their business on the tall grass.

Welcome! Sounds like a very colorful flock. I hope you both enjoy the website and find it useful.
Hi, thanks, and happy to be here.

Same here, and happy new year.
Welcome to BYC. I have to ask how do you happen to have two and a half roosters ? What happened to the other half ?
Beautiful! Brings a tear to my eye.It makes life worthwhile .I prefer chickens to humans mostly!
Thanks for the kind words. I hope sad face the hen is sad no more. Wishing you a happy new year.

Oh,well she passed over but she was one of my favourites, she had a little tear coming out of her eye but it was actually a part of her face .She also had a twisted neck when she came to me.It's funny how the memories stay with us and quite vivid. Have kept chickens for a while now and have seen alot!!
It takes us on a journey for sure.

The Story of Half Rooster

Well, this critter pictured below arrived on May 8 of 2018 as an Easter Egger male. He was the biggest and tallest of the mixed flock through the first month. He has not laid any eggs, no surprise there, but he has not developed into a rooster either. There are and have been signs that he is a rooster, notably the other two roosters singling him out and giving him hell as they came of age. But again the stature does not really resemble that of a rooster, hence the term half rooster.
