Hi all! New to BYC, although I've been stalking the site for months as I have been preparing for raising my first flock of birds. My chicks are now 2 weeks old, so I decided to formally join the BYC community.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
- Raised 3 chickens as a kid, but don't remember much (parents did most of the raising, really).
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
- 8 chicks!
(3) What breeds do you have?
- From Alchemist Farm, breeder in Sebastopol, CA: 2 French Black Copper Marans, 2 Cream Legbars, 1 "Alchemist Blue" which the breeder created...I think a cross between an Isbar and something else, 1 "Azure Egger"...another hybrid created by the breeder that she selected for bright blue eggs, 1 Welsummer, and 1 German Bielefelder.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
- The funny personalities and the colorful eggs, of course ;-)
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
- Cooking, gardening
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
- Full-time mama to a one-year-old boy, no other pets, former Executive Assistant in the big city who just moved back to the country.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Have heard about the site for years, was curious, came here to browse about different breeds, feeds, and general chick-raising tips.
