Hi everyone! My family and I own a small 5-acre homestead that we call "Rehoboth." We have a garden, fruit trees, chickens, guineas, and lots of flowers. We'll soon add heritage turkeys and Kune Kune pigs.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

We've kept chickens since 2016, first in our urban backyard and now on our small farm.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Right now, we have 12 layers and 3 roosters (for breeding purposes). I've also got 6 chicks that are a week old. We have 6 guineas as well, and we raise meat chickens every spring/summer (Red Rangers).

(3) What breeds do you have?

We have Welsummers (my favorite), Rhode Island Red, Australorp, Buff Orpington, White Leghorn, and Dominiques. We are going to be breeding more Welsummers and Rhode Island Reds this year.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

I just love having them around. They are so entertaining. It's also gratifying to know that I'm helping to preserve a bit of history with out heritage breeds. We love the eggs, too!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Gardening, Fine woodworking, carpentry, reading & writing.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

My wife and I have a son and a daughter on the way. We have a black Lab named Max and two cats.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?

I have read the forum for a few years, but I finally decided to join the community when I had a few questions that I couldn't answer.
