(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? We’ve had chickens for about 3 months.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? We just got 2 new ones today for a total of 9.
(3) What breeds do you have? We have five that are a cross between a barred type and something else, two that look like Rhode Island Reds, and two black with some reddish feathers under the black. I’ll find out the next time I see the guy we got them from what the black ones are exactly…they’re so pretty.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? I think my favorite part is every evening we let them out of the run so they can free range for an hour or two while we sit with them. No matter what mood I’m in, they never fail to make me laugh. Their antics are hilarious!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I do a lot of sewing, and my husband loves working around our land.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. My husband retired last year and I’ve been disabled for years. We lost our 13 yo Dobie last year, but we have a cat that came with the house and land. We have a son and daughter, both married, eight grandkids, and eight great-grandkids.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? My daughter who has had chickens for about 5 years, told me about BYC and I thought it would be a great forum for learning about chickens and meeting others who love them as much as we do.
