I have 2 2 yr olds I added a couple 1 yr olds and I had to put a divider on the roost. Now I am going to add 3 more layers. I have bar to roost in the run also I was thinking of letting some out in the run over night not sure if that is a good idea or not. Or just putting them all in the coop?

I had to add a hen to my group, what I did was grab the leader hen and put her in with the new hen, made a little pen where the rest of the chickens can see them, and wait for about 2-3 days, make sure you have food and water in the pen, spill some food next to the pen so they can eat with each other.

How long ago did you do this....and are they getting along?
I just put 3 days ago I put the divider in and now one of the older chickens are sleeping on top of the divider. I really think mamma one of my originals is the Queen B and the other old one doesn't want to sleep with her either so she is sleeping on top of the divider. The new yearlings are now fine on the opposite roost. I might be redcieveing 3 more layers so that's going to be fun. I almost feel like I just want to let them figure it out.

Thank you I don't know how to find messages so maybe I have it figured out now so I am Doing exactly as you mentioned. Ill probably try on day 3.

So now I added 4 youngsters to my 4. I am putting the yearlings up on the roost with the leader and when its dark I think they are fine. So now I just bought 4 -4 month olds and I have them separated in the run by fence. Im going to give it 3 days and try to integrate

So today is day four and I am doing exactly what you suggested. Whenever I open the divider the older ones attack the little ones. I think I should probably just let them work it out for an hour and sit back and see if they clam down. I just don't want to traumatize the new little ones. I might give them a few more days. I put the older two in a pen and let the new babes free range they like it but stay close to home. Just need time I believe.

Have you put any of the hens with the younger ones, they need to work it out
