Introducing New Chickens

A number of my friends strongly suggest that you spray cheap cologne on both the newbies and the established flock so that they all smell the same. They do this when introducing the newbies into the flock and claim that it works wonders. Haven't tried it yet, but it's something else to consider.

WOW. Thanks for all of these thoughts! I never knew about pecking order till I got the new poults. Thanks so much!!

I laid out a large plastic mat in the bathroom and took all the girls out to meet the young'uns (younger by 1 and 2 weeks).

They each inspected each other, but only my most dominant pullet Chai had any bad attitude (for weeks!). After that, they were all fine. I had to separate the younguns from the rest for a week and a half or so while they all got medicated for coccidiosis, but it worked out reintegrating.
