Introducing new chicks to a 13 hens

We just started letting our chickens peck around in our fenced in garden. They love it, but we are worried we could lose some to hawks. If we lose some, we would like to have backups. With 13 hens that are almost a year old, is it a good idea to introduce new chicks to them? THis is our first time having chickens and just want to do what is best. We were thinking about buying chicks from rural king the first time, and if that goes well, get some from the Cackle Hatchery. Any advice? Thoughts?

Also we have not identified any of our hens as ¨broody" Should we buy chicks or eggs?
