Four weeks ago we purchased two Golden Wyandottes chicks, two Silver Wyandottes chicks, and two Barred Rocks chicks for our two daughter's 4h projects. They will be moving into their coop in a few weeks. Unfortunately we lost one of our Barred Rocks due to a tragic accident not to sickness. We have recently purchase two more Barred Rock chicks and were wondering when it comes time to introduce the new Barred Rocks chicks to the flock how do we got about it? We do not have any other chickens besides the ones mentioned. The newly acquirred chicks will be raised separately from the four-week old chicks.

Raise them next to each other so they can interact through the wire. If you can when the youngest are about four weeks let them mingle in a large area, with obstacles and places only the little ones can get in. If that goes well repeat it for a few days. After that you should be able to keep them in the same coop. By that time the youngest should be nearing six weeks and no longer need a heat source.
