Hi everyone! In late winter, my husband and I acquired two adult (2-3 year old) ducks. Margery is a Pekin. Daphne is a Rouen. They had previously been a part of a much larger flock of ducks and chickens at their old home. However, the flock was decimated by a Fisher, and their owner decided that he was done. We took the two surviving ducks. They were a bit traumatized, and had minor injuries, but are now doing great!

We are working on building the outdoor portion of their enclosure (they spend the night in our barn), but we would like to add 2-3 additional ducks once the enclosure is finished. I’d rather adopt adults or teenagers rather than hatchlings, and figured that we would find ones that needed a new home from people who bought ducklings and then had regrets once they got bigger.

I would like to know how to properly introduce new ducks. Are certain breeds better than others? We plan to stick with just females if possible. Would they accept a teenager more quickly than an adult? Do I need to quarantine any newcomers?

Margery and Daphne are, of course, inseparable. I just thought that a couple new friends wouldn’t be amiss.

Thoughts?

Hello...
Definitely get Hens and I first introduce them in a crate and after 15 minutes I let them out together. Generally a bit of chest bumping and neck tying and then it's over.
If breeding season the Drake will probably rape or beat up the other Ducks if too young..Not always as it depends on the Drake..
