Wonder Woman
In the Brooder
Well for a start I WONDER where I left my keys.
I WONDER if I should pay the electricity or phone account first.
I WONDER if I can stretch the budget to include something interesting for dinner this week.
When I bend down to pull weeds, I WONDER if I will be able to straighten up again.
I WONDER why every joint in my body either creaks, hurts or plain doesn’t work.
But most of all... I wonder about my little flock of chickens. I have four. They are the joy of my life. Because of them, I get out of bed ....way too early.
They make me laugh. I have conversations with them all the time. They like to gossip and complain. We sing to each other. They are seven months old and have been laying for just over six weeks. They each give me a beautiful egg almost every day. I have even had a few double-Yolkers.
When they first started laying, one of my ladies would go around after laying her egg, picking up pieces of straw, or feathers, or anything she could find and throw it over her shoulders on to her back. This behaviour was so strange. Perhaps she was dressing herself up in her finery to celebrate laying such an awesome egg. Perhaps it was a special event. She might have wanted a new dress for the prom. I never did find out the reason. She didn’t say. Maybe it just felt like something she just HAD to do. In any case, she does not do it any more.
My husband said now that I had chickens, he would have to take second place. I told him that was ridiculous.
I have FOUR chickens.
He has to come fifth place. Obviously.
