We currently have a flock of 5 3-month old Jersey Giants (pretty sure 2 Roos and 3 hens, but unconfirmed). We will be receiving 5 Chantecler Chicks (day olds) from a neighbour as soon as they've hatched- wondering how long the chicks need to be in segregation from the others? Our Jersey Giants are very gentle and friendly but obviously are kinda on the huge side. They have only moved out to their new coop/run a few weeks ago. I was thinking once the chanteclers don't need their brooder/heat lamp during the day to put them out in the coop in a dog pen- so they are there but not under foot. And do tat for a few weeks? Building a separate run isn't an option.
Any pointers are more then Welcome!
Thanks!

Welcome to BYC!!!!

The dog pen is an excellent idea. That way they can all get to know each other before they are living together. I always separate using chicken wire, it sounds like the dog pen would be much easier.

Beautiful coop by the way!
