Hi, my name is Jackie. I have been raising exotic chickens and birds my entire life. My favorites are golden seabrights, cochins and silkies. I no longer raise chickens, but have found a new love. I now am attempting to breed peafowl. I have owned them for several years now and just started breeding last year (no success last year but my peafowl are young). I currently have a Oaten male and female, Indian Blue male and female, a black shoulder male, and a midnight black shoulder male. I bred my IB female to my oaten male. NOW for my question, so far I hatched 2 chicks, one is yellow the other brown. Reading on genetics I will get oaten females and IB split to oaten males. What will my split males look like? I am still learning so what does split mean? Thanks all.

I think split refers to a color carried as a recessive. There are some active peacock threads on here, I read them myself out of curiousity. They discuss color genetics frequently (way over my head) but I'm sure others can understand them. Check out "Other backyard poultry" for peacock threads.
