Hi everyone!

I am a new chicken mom and have raised 4 “sexed silkies” from Rural King. Only one of them is definitely a silkie and the rest I think are cochins? I think 2 are “red” and one is white. So, I am pretty sure I have some cockerels in the mix. They are 5 months old now and no signs of crowing or eggs. I don’t want to seperate if not needed, but I need help knowing if I need to start trying to find homes for the roos now. Pictures are also so hard to get of them, so I apologize! Between the two “reds”, one has a much more prominent comb and wattles. Can anyone help sex these for me and maybe confirm my cochin self-identification? Thank you so much in advance!

noooooo I was hoping the silkie and white one I would be able to keep. I though because the silkie had a neat top knot it might be a girl :(
I was looking at not only the hairdo, but the tail. Look at that one's tail compared to your other white one. I also see what look to be hackles.

However, if these are really 5 mos old, it should be trying to crow by now, so perhaps it's not. But silkies by 5 months can be absolutely sexed. Maybe get us some better pictures of their combs would help.

I can definitely see what you’re talking about now with the tail, still not so sure on the hackles. I’ll get better pictures in the daylight tomorrow of their combs. I just had a middle of the night panic that I needed to find the roosters homes lol. Thanks for the help! :)

Hello, and welcome to BYC! We're glad you joined us. :frow:welcome

I'm no expert on Silkies but I'm going to say female...I could be wrong though.
The others are definitely Cochins, and at 5 months old they all look to be girls to me.
Thank you for the welcome! For their age and size, do you think they’re bantam cochins? Also, you made my night for the moment, because I just want hope that I don’t have to rehome anyone.

I do think they're bantams, they would probably be bigger by now.
I'm fairly certain all the Cochins are girls. Oh! I just remembered, at around 12-ish weeks in males male specific feathering should be coming in. Since your birds are a bit past that age I would expect a male to have male specific feathering by now. I don't see any of that male feathering which would confirm the Cochins are all girls.
