Hi everyone,
I just joined BYC and posted an intro on the Newbie forum but it was suggested that I come and introduce myself and my critters here too! So without further ado...
My DH and I just moved to Eastern ON from out west and brought all our animals with us! It was quite the epic journey! I had been studying web design on Vancouver Island, so we started off there with 6 dogs, 2 cats, and 3 horses. The dogs and cats traveled with us, and the 3 horses came a bit later with a commercial hauler. We drove across country, picking up our household goods that were in storage in Manitoba, and got to Eastern Canada to move into our new home. It took us from Sunday am to Friday afternoon to do the trip (that includes 30 h in Manitoba to load our possessions onto a U-haul and hit the road again)! We are now all settled on a 14.5 acre hobby farm with an 1878 brick home, and a fantastic little barn. In the spring, we're going to be doing a lot of clearing of brush and downed trees to make big paddocks for the horses, a riding / agility arena, and hopefully a nice chicken coop for me to start a small flock!
Our dogs:
Ash, 11 yr old Border Collie female
Soot, 9 yr old Border Collie / Sheltie female
OneX, 3 yr old Border Collie male
Irra, 14 yr old Border Collie / Aussie female
Penny, 11 yr old rescued Greyhound female
Paprika, 6 yr old Australian Shepherd female
Our cats:
Trout (14 yrs old, black) and Tuna (8 yr old, tabby), our cats
Our horses:
Spike, 17 yr old Canadian Sport horse mare - retired due to pasture injury
Willow, 7 yr old Hanoverian/TB mare - she's my dressage horse and was a rescue
Fore, 2.5 yr old Canadian Warmblood gelding (Spike's son, he's for sale)
So that's the menagerie for now! Hopefully this spring I'll be adding some chickens! And DH wants to get a calf. And I wouldn't be adversed to get some sheep, maybe a pony that needs a retirement home... Our family thinks that we're nuts!
