I had a dog like that. He killed two of my roosters. My husband put a lot of effort into training him to get along with and ignore the birds. I think old age was the greatest deterent though. Eventually I could trust him with my birds. My older birds had a good memory, they still gave warning calls when he was around.
Here he is with my yard roosters. He died last year at age 11. My other dogs have never paid attention to the chickens.
