(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I first got chickens when I was young, probably around 9 or 10. They were my parents birds, but I liked to be involved with their care, and tried to befriend them all lol.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

I have 9 quail, I think that equals 3 chickens? :p
5 just hatched - I had 1 hatch on the 27th (Eggbert!), and the other 4 hatch on the 31st (separate incubators, too long of a story for an intro post!)
The adults we got back in October, Skrunkly, Possum, and Layne - two hens and a roo. We started with five, but lost Stink, and who we call the Unknown Soldier, since they never had a name, when they were just chicks.

(3) What breeds do you have?

Coturnix.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

Their personalities! I love watching their social groups and standings evolve, plus they crack me up every day! Also, the noises! Me and my boyfriend always mimic the quail egg song, lol.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Fossil hunting, gaming, sometimes drawing. Mostly I’m all about my animals, though.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I live with my boyfriend and future MIL in northern Illinois, work in IT, am a veteran, and am finishing my bachelors for Computer Science.
My other pets are a very sassy green cheek conure, Beepers, who I rescued back in August. My boyfriend included his two cats, as well: Gilbert and Tiggy.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

Oh, I’ve known about BYC since the beginning! As a huge computer nerd, I’ve been lurking on the internet as long as I can remember. I rarely post, however - I need some more poultry loving friends! This community has saved my quail multiple times, and the wealth of knowledge is truly incredible. I love browsing the forum, learning and researching to further improve my flocks lives!
I’ve attached a photo of Eggbert as a thank you for clicking! He’s my special cuddly boy!
