Hello y'all to answer some of the basic questions .....
Yes I am new to the chicken world and got my chicks this spring they are so much fun I have to hens right now looking to get another one that is already laying eggs but time will tell ... lol
my hens are a
Golden sex-link, and a golden white wyandotte they both are quiet the talkers brings a smile to my face
I found out about backyardchickens.com cause I am usually doing lots of research of chicken stuff and this site seems to always pop up with lots of good information
Some of my other hobbies are Gardening, and essential oils how to heal without man made medication
well I am a stay home mom of 3 kids live in Boise Idaho so I don't work i have 2 Guinea, 2 doves, 1 parakeet

Welcome to BYC....I too have 3 kids too, one just reached teen years...I frequently have to escape to "check" the chickens, or I go to "lock" them at night only to realize I have been there an hour! They will be addictive, but entertaining! oh---and if you have 3 kids - you DO work, just at the home! lol kinda close we live in spokane washington --north of you by Coeur d' Alene, ID

very nice yes I work at home just don't get paid for it ...lol so do you have any problems with cats bothering your chicks i think I do their water in knocked over 2 days in a row which is out of the norm for my ladies

I think cats would do more damage than knocking water over, they'd be eating your chickens.
