Hello, I am very new you chickens. I just received my chicks last week. I’ve always wants chicken.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

I currently have 4 chickens.

I have 2
Rhode Island Red
And 2
Ameraucana


(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

Googling questions

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I am an animal lover. My husband and I also love to work on cars

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share
I have 3 dogs, 3 cats, 2 chinchillas, and now 4 chicks

I am trying to figure out the best coop for my chicks. And my husband would like to get ducks. Do they get along with chickens? Can they share a coop? I would love some information for a newbie

Drakes are dangerous to hens if they try to mate them. Drakes have a "thingy" and roosters do not have one. Hens are not designed for that so they can be injured

What about just female ducks,

they are fine with chickens. If you do not want to breed, you do not need drakes

If you don't need fertile eggs(for hatching) you don't need a drake(for ducks) or rooster ( for hens). Females will lay just as many eggs without male intervention . Albeit they won't be fertile eggs.
